Meet Aidan

In November 2011, 10-year-old Aidan had a seizure after his baseball practice. There were no symptoms or warnings. Aidan was transported by ambulance to the hospital and soon after a tumor was discovered in his brain.

Aidan was treated at Orange County Children’s Hospital (CHOC), and the tumor was removed by a very delicate surgery. The initial results of the tumor were that it was benign and the hope was that by removing it, the sudden emergency in Aidan's life would be resolved. This would not be the case. Aidan had a follow up MRI and a second tumor was discovered. This tumor is cancerous, and Aidan is now in a fight for life with an extremely rare form of brain cancer.

Aidan has endured months of chemotherapy and numerous surgeries and continues to fight hard with a great spirit and attitude as well as a loving family by his side. Aidan is from Corona, California and is quite the baseball player. Aidan’s family includes his father, a Sheriff's Deputy with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, his mom and 12-year-old sister, Addyson.

When Passion 4 K.I.D.S. heard that Aidan’s favorite baseball team was the Angels, they immediately contacted the team who sent a huge box of Angel souvenirs to Aidan. Charles and Linda brought the box to him in the hospital and watched Aidan be transformed into an excited little boy whose bed became a giant sea of red as he opened his special gifts from his favorite team! That gesture of kindness from the Angels meant more than words can say to both Aidan and Passion 4 K.I.D.S.

Aidan’s favorite baseball player is Jered Weaver, pitcher for the Angels. Passion 4 K.I.D.S. arranged for Aidan to meet Jered in the Angels’ Club House and spend 2 hours on the field during batting practice meeting all of his favorite players, including Albert Pujols. Jered even surprised Aidan by giving him tickets to sit in his personal seats at the game. It was an unforgettable experience to see Aidan speechless as he stared up at his 6’7” hero!

Aidan was one of those unusual kids who had that special something. You met him once and never forgot him. His bravery and courage inspired everyone he met even briefly. We want to share with you an emotional and touching memory of Aidan.

When Passion 4 K.I.D.S. surprised Aidan by arranging for him to meet Jered Weaver, his favorite baseball player at the Angels, we brought with us a copy of this photo to give to Jered (see photo on right).   He immediately asked Aidan to sign the photo and told him he would put it up in his locker (which we later found out that he did).  The following week Jered’s wife along with several other players’ wives visited patients at Children’s Hospital.  Unknowingly, Aidan happened to be on Kristin Weaver’s list of children to visit so she met this amazing little boy as well.  When we notified the Angels’ team of Aidan’s passing, they contacted us saying that Jered and Kristin Weaver were devastated and wanted to reach out to Aidan’s family as he had touched them both so deeply.   Imagine almost one year later to the day that Aidan had met Jered, Aidan’s parents were sitting at home watching the Angels’ game on TV.  The announcer commented that Jered Weaver’s wife had just given birth to their first child, a little boy they named Aden. The wondered if this was a “coincidence” or a beautiful tribute of their son living on in a new life.  Two days later the Angels contacted us saying that Jered had announced in his press conference and interviews surrounding the birth of his new son that one of the reasons they chose that name was “we had recently met a young boy, Aidan, who was in poor health. At the age of 11, he'd come to Angel Stadium to meet his two favorite players, Jered Weaver and Dustin Pedroia of the Boston Red Sox. Kristin also met Aidan, and adored his spirit. Aidan passed away in September.”
