Meet Caleb

Caleb is a 12 year old boy who wants nothing more than to be active.  On first appearance he seems to be a typical boy but all of a sudden his gait pattern changes, and he loses his balance.  He drops things and can’t bend down to pick them up.  Caleb is suffering from muscular dystrophy.  His biggest fear is losing his independence and becoming wheelchair bound.

Caleb recently got a companion dog to keep him balanced and to pick things up when he drops them but the dog had not yet been trained. We arranged for someone to assess if the dog was “trainable” for this type of role but he wasn’t.  We have helped the family identify a wonderful program that will find the perfect dog and train it but the cost is $12,000 which is totally out of the financial capabilities for this family.  Caleb was blessed to be adopted by a loving older couple who currently have 18 adopted special needs children.  Their home is filled with love, kindness and compassion, even though funds are in short supply.  Their needs are great on many levels and our desire is to help as much as possible.
